Notes for Rene LaForce II:
The only records of his birth I’ve found are his parents wills. Otherwise his wife mentions him in various letters to people in attempts to get her slaves back.
According to wife he was a Tory who was run off from Virginia as a result. On the way to KY he was accidentally shot & killed by a son while camping one night. The family continued on to their destination & just started to build when captured by the British & Indians, marched to Canada & held there as POW’s ’til after the Revolutionary War. Her slaves were taken & with her husband dead they were the only way she could finish raising any minor children.
I’ve heard he married another/other woman/women & that his older children belong to her/them. All I know is they didn’t start keeping records ’til his 5th-6th child came along & by Robert’s birth he was married to Agnes Mosby/Moseby. The date they have recorded as Rene & Agnes’ wedding date is actually Robert’s birth date. I don’t see how he could’ve left a will. And since everything was lost I don’t see how she could’ve left a will. But I’ve heard she did & in it she left whatever she had to Rene III I believe even though he wasn’t the oldest son.
If there’s a map pinpointing his burial location I’ve never heard of it. He was buried by the side of the road near wherever they were camping. Upon her release from being a POW they say she went back to VA. Her burial location has yet to be found.
Not sure if Barney existed. Not sure if William Bailey was son or grandson. List of captured list as children Ann, Agnes, William Bailey & Judith. At least Agnes is married they’re with his family & at least one or two children. Older children & youngest son Mount aren’t mentioned. The Douglas Register notes Robert, Ann, Agnes, Judith & Mount’s births but not older children or William Bailey’s.

Notes for Rene LaForce I:
Per family legend he was born about 1660 in what was then Guyenne & is now Aquitaine, France. He was reportedly born in a castle called Castlenau. This was a de Caumont de la Force property. De Caumont de la Force’s were dukes, marshals & peers of France. Because he was a Huguenot he was one of many forced to flee. We have no idea who his parents were. We have no idea where he was educated to be a doctor or what kind of doctor he was (people or animals). We have no idea where he stopped off between France & Manakin Town, Virginia. We have no idea if he left previous wives & children behind in France &/or one or more of these other places.
He’s listed as a founder of Manakin Town, Virginia. There’s some land records but I have no copies & couldn’t tell you where their land was or the name of their plantation. He’s a witness on some docs. He was made Justice of the Peace of Goochland County, Virginia & months later he died leaving behind a will. I believe he leaves youngest daughter Judith out of his will & if so it’s because she wasn’t born yet. I also believe the rest of his children were all minors at his passing.
The burial locations of Rene, Sarah, Sarah Harding, William Harding, Rene Harding & Rachel LaForce are all unknown. They’re either buried on LaForce land, Harding land or in a nearby churchyard cemetery.
Note for Sarah Unknown:
We have no idea who her parents/sibs were, when she was born, where she came from, when they got here, where they landed, when she married or when her kids were born. In these times major events in life (birth, baptismal, marriage & death) were recorded in church docs & family bibles. It’s believed there used to be a LaForce family bible but whatever happened to it we don’t know. Whatever book these events were recorded in were lost. The reason we know about her & her kids is because she & hubby both left wills.

I believe she’s mentioned in dad’s will but not mom’s because she died before mom did. We believe she died fairly young, single & childless as no one has come forward claiming to come from her. She’s likely buried near parents – either on La Force land or in nearest churchyard cemetery.
