Maria Cué died March 17th, 2006. Born in Havana, Cuba on August 24th, 1952, she was the eldest of 5 children born to Pedro A. Cué, MD and Maria Ortiz Cué.
In 1960, they fled communist Cuba and eventually, with the help and support of friends and total strangers who adopted the family as its own, they settled in Austin. Maria attended St Austin’s, St Mary’s, McCallum High and graduated from UT @ Austin with a degree in art. Maria was brilliant; an extremely gifted and creative individual who excelled at all tasks she undertook. She will be sadly missed.
Maria was pre-deceased by her father, Pedro A Cué and her sister, Julia J Cué. She is mourned by her mother, her sister Teresa and husband, Mark Perkins, brothers, Pedro A. Cué and Antonio M Cué, Sr., her nephew Antonio M Cué, II (a marine stationed in Iraq) and her niece, Jennifer LeForce, in addition to other close family members. Zee, her beloved Labrador, will miss her most of all.
Memorials may be made in Maria’s name to St Mary’s Cathedral or the Austin Humane Society. Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 21st at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 22, 2006 in the Weed-Corley-Fish Chapel with Monsignor Edward Matocha of St. Mary?s Cathedral officiating.
